What is the The Feinstein Foundation Campaign? From March 1 to April 30 the Community Cupboard will par take in the Feinstein Foundation's 12th annual $1 Million Giveaway to Fight Hunger. All cash donations given to the Community Cupboard will be counted dollar for dollar, and food items will be valued at $1 per pound. The FFC's $1 million will be divided proportionately among all food cupboards across the nation taking part in the campaign, and the FFC's past challenges to fight hunger has raised $940 million for food cupboards nationwide. Last year during the campaign, the Community Cupboard collected $3,152 in cash and 13,824 pounds of food from 141 donors. After submitting the paperwork to FFC, the Cupboard received a check for $294 of the $1 million. Who helps support the Cupboard during the campaign? Our neighbors, business owners, grocers, civic organizations, churches, schools and hunters who donated game meat. Who can use the Cupboard? Anyone who needs food assistance. The Cupboard asks no questions about need. The only requirement is to bring a referral slip available from HRDC, Council on Aging, the churches, SAVES, OPA. The need for food assistance extends beyond Lewistown. The Cupboard serves people from Winifred, Grass Range, Roy, and Hobson. The Cupboard serves many people: seniors, veterans, the homeless, single mothers and fathers, widows and widowers, the handicapped, and impoverished families. Statistics: Use of the Cupboard remains fairly consistent year round, but food and cash donations ebb in spring and summer. The value of the FFC is it takes place during the spring and reminds folks that food assistance needs continues after the holidays. For example, in August 2008 the Cupboard served 40 first-time clients; in December 2008, 25 first-time clients; and in January 09, 36 new clients. |
